artificial Intelligence

artificial Intelligence (AI) is a rising technology that seemed like a fantasy only a few decades ago. It's now one of the biggest topics in the tech industry and many people are anticipating it eagerly, while others continue to warn us of the potential dangers and threats AI supposedly poses to the future of society.

AI is technology that's focused on building machines that learn and develop the cognitive, behavioral, and social capabilities typically associated only with human beings. In short, AI is about building things that can mimic and transfigure human function. Such machines will have the ability to self-learn and become increasingly intelligent with human knowledge, experience, and understanding. These machines will learn almost exactly the same way a person does - through reward and punishment. Of course, machines don't get literally punished or rewarded like humans do - AI simply runs on algorithms that continuously optimize its behavior by following correct patterns and never repeating the wrong ones.

It is in this very capability, that humans feel the threat of AI to their own survival. If AI can think like me, avoid my mistakes and perform my tasks at unmatchable speed, why would anyone need me to do anything? Think about it? If AI can process billions of inputs at once and complete tasks without repeating errors, isn't it surely more effective than humans?

Computational Thinking

According to renowned computer scientist, Jeannette M. Wing, computational thinking skill is the most in-demand skill in the age of information. Computational thinking allows us to problem-solve and think like a computer scientist. more

Programming at Early Ages

Educators agree that the best age to learn a skill like math or language is ages 5 - 11 years old. Similarly, children need to start learning coding at an early age to build a deeper foundation for their future. more

MIT App Inventor

MIT professor Hal Abelson took the initiative to build a platform to to make app development easy and accessible for people who were non-programmers, even kids. more

Python

Python is one of the most popular programming language in the world right now which has helped create platforms like Facebook and Youtube! And surprisingly it is so simple that kids aged 5 years old can understand it. more

while there is no denying AI will have a tremendous impact on the future economy, there is something still very unique to humans. And that is the ability to create, and have a holistically irrational sense of our surroundings. Humans, for now, are still better at perceiving the things that aren't 1's & 0's, grey area, the non-dichotomous variables, and have somehow retained the paradoxical ability to be simpler and more complex than computers all at once.

Remember that fundamentally, technology is man-made, and we, therefore, arrive at the question, "if the created can truly understand the creator?" Humans will always have the ultimate power to create and destroy the things they have built. But to overcome the threat posed by AI, every individual needs to learn how to control it. We need to equip every member of the society with an understanding of AI so that they learn how to control and best use it.

The technologies that we have created for our benefit can only destroy us if we become enslaved to them as mere users. To become creators is, therefore, the only solution, that ensures our ability reigns supreme over AI. The bright side to AI taking over many of the jobs you & I are used to doing is that we may find some newer, better and more interesting things to do with our limited time on Earth. Perhaps that's why AI is needed all the more. To save our time, so that we can choose the futures we want, instead of waiting around for them to happen.
